Ok so bad bad bad BAD blogger! I've been at the beach with my beautiful family (good excuse right?) and really focusing on being a good mom and wife, trying to start a business (which is a blast! I can't wait to show you guys!) and find a focus for this blog. Looking at all the other great, creative, highly stylized blogs I read on a daily basis I wonder if I'll ever get there-and do I want to? SO for now I'm going to take a break-ok another break and find some focus and get my primary business on it's feet.

We have all seen a million "green" products some good, some not so much. Anne's line Beau Soleil, named after her favorite oyster, is both environmentally conscious and stylish. One of our favorite items are the bags! Cassie uses her Beau Bag for the gym, I use mine for Eleanor's school bag and Beau Clutch for "tools" in my work bag. Some notes on Paris/London

You know when you have to much to catch up on that it is overwhelming so instead of tackling it you procrastinate. Well that's me. So here it is in a petite nut shell.

PARIS:
1. Everyone is wearing skinny jeans or leggings with knee high boots. EVERYONE
2. I love Laduree
3. There are some amazing cars on the street
4. YSL retrospective was perfection
5. Deroyelle was BEYOND
6. Can never get enough of Colette
7. Drinks at the Plaza Athenee are expensive
8. Conveyor belt sushi is better than it sounds
9. I love Paris

LONDON:
1. Everyone was wearing heels
2. It rained. Then everyone was wearing wellies
3. The V&A rocks
4. I would eat at Borough Market everyday if I could
5. Churchill's Cabinet war rooms were more interesting than anticipated

YSL retrospective was 3 hour wait so we are going to try again on tuesday. Instead we walked along the Seine, went to the jardin de tulieries, Louvre, walked the Champs de Elysee, napped for 3 hours (shocking for me) and now ready for dinner!

Paint project of the month

Every month we execute a new paint project for Mountain Paint & Decorating- this month our color is Benjamin Moore Yellow Green and our project was a classic "Trash to Treasure" story. It was so much fun, it can be done in a weekend for next to nothing and we love our new piece! Here are the steps and the shopping list.

STEP 1

We started here. Don't these Trash to Treasure stories always start at Habitat or Goodwill?

We saw you across a crowded warehouse & knew you were something special!

Doubt sets in. "Really Cassie?"

STEP 2

Commence sanding & it's FREEZING!

STEP 3

So many good greens it was hard to choose.

STEP 4

Love a paint sprayer! Does it look like Cassie does all the work?

The oil paint gives it a lacquer look.

We hope you like it! Here's the shopping list.

Desk-$20

Sandpaper- .49/sheet or .79/block (we used an orbit sander about $69 at Lowe's)

Tack cloth- .79 (to wipe down the desk before painting. It's a must!)

Paint brush- This one is tricky Mountain Paint has bushes that would do the job for anywhere between $6.99 and $28.99. A low end average for a brush is about $10. We borrowed the paint sprayer but you can absolutly do it with a brush only

Drop cloth- $2.99

Paint thinner-Only if oil based paint is used; unnecessary if water-based product is used. $5.99 (we used oil paint to get that high shine)

Paint-$13.99- $23.99(the paint we chose was $23.99)

Knobs-from Lowe's -$1.08

Overall project cost based on these numbers would run around $90.00 on the high end and as little as $55.00 on the low end.

The Baggie Goose window is done & we are so happy about the way it turned out!

There is still some snow on the ground but "The Goose" is ready for SPRING!

Lot's of stuff going on at Turner & Co! Many trips to CLT, Installing Baggie Goose window with Cassie today-I'll post final pics this weekend- We think it's going to be so cute! Finishing up Mountain Paint & Decorating project of the month -I'll post the project, pics and shopping list on Monday. Working on several amazing design jobs with the best clients, fun work on a beautiful wedding coming up in May, a little work on the up coming Pisgah Legal Services Jazz for Justice event AND getting ready for a trip to Paris & London next week. I don't know if my head is spinning from paint fumes or just stuff! Here are some pics of the prep work we've been doing. Have a great sunny day!

In the NYT Style section this past Sunday there was an article titled "On Top of the Happiness Racket". It really struck a chord with me. We are inundated with books and articles about this elusive happiness. We pay for hours of therapy to try to find it. We leave good jobs because we are lacking it. We must be really unhappy & clearly no one has come up with a good plan on how to "be happy". Maybe this book could help. I am not "unhappy", I just want to be more satisfied with what I have and be more joyful all around. I am from the Empire State (thanks Jay-Z) and I'm a cynic. It has served me well for many years. My dad was the ultimate cynic so I'm guessing it's inherited. Living in the South for 6 years has started to soften me and I think I want to be more cheerful. Maybe just a touch more cheerful-I'm not ready to go all Drew Barrymore but a little smile can't hurt right? Anyway, The Happiness Project seems to have lists and I really like a list. The author checks boxes when she has completed a task-I really like checking boxes too. This may be the ticket! Check out the NYT article-maybe you can be happier too! :) still hate emoticons...

School is closed AGAIN today and it's causing mass chaos AGAIN. A good friend wrote this rant that is funny, smart and dead on. It's about Asheville but I'm sure it expresses what many of you are feeling-just replace Asheville, your local grocery store, your local weather person etc... I need it to be spring RIGHT NOW!

Am I missing something here, or have we all turned into a bunch of wimps? Groceries stores are swamped, schools are closed, and it’s a re-enactment of the old Asheville Motor Speedway the moment a snowflake is spotted anywhere in the vicinity of Buncombe county. Has common sense just been thrown out of the window when it comes to winter weather?

Having grown up in Asheville, I was under the impression that we considered ourselves a tough little mountain town and could handle a bit of the white stuff. Well, I was wrong. When it comes to snow, Asheville has turned into the big fraternity boy who drinks two wine coolers and then passes out.

Is it really necessary to call school off because Julie Wunder says there is a 30% chance of snow showers with accumulation of up to one inch? When I was in elementary school, having classes cancelled because of inclement weather was along the same lines of getting a death-row pardon from the governor. Now, the mere mention of the phrase “wintry mix” strikes fear into the hearts of school superintendents and produces a sudden craving for a gallon of ultra-pasteurized organic milk and any bread you can get your hands on.

And isn’t it ironic when schools are closed, people somehow manage to brave the elements and get to Target, Chick-Fil-A, and even the local ski slopes? Whatever happened to walking five miles to school, uphill both ways, in the middle of a Nor’easter, and being grateful for it?

Asheville, I think it’s about time to stop treating ourselves and our children with kid gloves (pun intended) and get ourselves back to school and work even if there is a remote chance that your SUV might actually need to be put into 4-wheel drive. Remember, you are probably even close enough to walk to Ingles to get your milk, bread and wine coolers if you get desperate enough.

An extremely rare 1918 Sterling silver table cigar lighter realistically modelled in the form of a No. 5 Mills grenade, complete with detachable ring, folding clip etc, with rubbed engraving reading “To Brig. Gen Sir C. W. King, KCMG, MVO, from old members of this staff, R. N. M. and A. E. T., 1918”. Signed and hallmarked Mappin and Webb, Birmingham 1918.

Note: Prior to 1915, stick grenades had proved as deadly to the thrower as to the intended target. Early in 1915, the engineer and inventor William Mills (1856 – 1932), opened the Mills Munition Factory in Birmingham. He redesigned the grenade and introduced the distinctive ‘pineapple’ appearance which improved grip for the thrower and fragmentation and detonation. Mills’ design incorporated a spring – loaded firing pin, locking the lever in place, and a 4-second time fuse allowed the thrower to take cover before it exploded. The British Army and its allies used the Mills grenade exclusively throughout the Great War, and it is estimated that over 75,000,000 were supplied during the conflict. Mills was rewarded for his efforts with a knighthood in 1922.

I don't like plants. I have plants in my house- I hate them. My husband won't let me kill them-though I am doing the best I can. I can't tell you why I don't like them-no horrible plant incident in my past can explain it, I simply don't enjoy plants in the house. Here are the plants I am trying to eliminate in my house.

This guy has been with us since we lived in Santa Monica-1999 people!

We call it the Dr. Seuss plant. It's the most horrible looking thing ever. I have tried to kill it for at least 9 years and Brian rescues it every time! I hate you Dr. Seuss plant!

All that being said...if I could live with plants like the specimens in these rooms, I might feel differently. MAYBE.

I know it's practically sub zero in post places in the country, and I probably should be posting "winter" color combos but if you are anything like me you are just OVER IT! Bring the Spring!

WOW its been a long few days! Sorry I've been a less than great blogger! I promise I'll make it up to you!

I've been trying to truly "define" my interior style-Eclectic? Modern? Feminine? Masculine?
I see a sparse, clean, modern space and think "ok, that's what I want. No more STUFF!" then I see and eclectic, "no rules" kind of space and say "well, that's more like me-a space with history, interesting collections...STUFF!". Less likely with a traditional space but I've been known to covet some chintz. I know I'm not the only one-So what's your style?

I have seen Natural Curiosities pieces several places and was always drawn to them. We (Lizzy, Shawnna and I) had a chance to meet Christopher Wilcox at the Atlanta Gift Show last year-as took us around his showroom and spoke about his work, we were inspired by his passion and devotion to the art. We visit him every time and there is always something new, interesting and unique. Recently I bought two of his pieces from the Quotes Collection for my husband who has made the courageous leap to leave his family business and pursue meaningful and fulfilling work.
I hope these inspire him in his new venture.

If you can dig out, buy ingredients to make this cold weather treat!

Ingredients

One 13.5 ounce can unsweetened coconut milk
1/4 cup sugar
1 3/4 cups heavy cream
1 2/3 cups whole milk
3 cups bittersweet chocolate chips (18 ounces)
Marshmallows, for serving (optional)

In a small saucepan, combine the coconut milk and sugar and heat, stirring to dissolve the sugar; keep warm. In a medium saucepan, combine the cream and whole milk and bring to a simmer. Add the chocolate chips and remove from the heat. Let stand, stirring occasionally, until the chocolate is melted; whisk until smooth. Pour the chocolate into 8 mugs and spoon some of the coconut milk on top. Garnish with the marshmallows and serve.

Several years ago I met the most wonderful fragrance. I was in Jeffrey in NYC with an old friend and she introduced us. I sampled it. I loved it. I don't know why it took so long for us to be together again but here she is, looking perfect on the vanity.

A little history...
